From teaching to tech
miMove was founded by Greg Dryer and Marcella Griso
Greg Dryer
Co-Founder
My life was shaped by physical activity and sport and I soon became aware how much this supported my life flourishing. It became my goal through teaching to ensure as many young people as possible developed a positive relationship with physical activity to reap the same benefits.
I chose communities in inner London where I could have the most impact, with young people who had the least resources and opportunities. I loved my job but unfortunately it was cut short when I was diagnosed with a serious illness. This led to major life-changing surgery. I decided upon two goals – to find an innovative way to impact more young people and to complete Ironman.
I moved into university-based teacher education to spread the reach of my work. Never wanting to be detached or irrelevant, I continued teaching and established a children's physical activity business (which we sold in 2019). Over the years, I built a far- reaching reputation that took me around the world, most notably to India, where my work reached hundreds of thousands of young people. I soon became frustrated by the limitations of my reach and the persistent concern that we had no data to measure the impact of our work in our field.
Marcella Griso
Co-Founder
Marcella (my co-founder and life partner) and I spent months mapping out how to solve this issue, in a way that would centre the young person and scale. miMove was born… I also completed Ironman.
Marcella taught English Literature for years in inner London schools, specialising in English as an Additional Language. As part of our children’s physical activity business, she designed and ran bespoke ski holidays for families, which drew upon her exceptional organisational and communication skills. With years of experience of inclusion within education, she has shaped the miMove vision of supporting all young people in benefitting from a lifetime of physical activity. She has a keen eye for detail and is a key architect of the miMove user experience.
